Statement from RIZE Massachusetts President & CEO Julie Burns

July 29, 2024

BOSTON (July 29, 2024) – RIZE Massachusetts thanks the Healey-Driscoll administration and legislative leaders for their continued support of efforts by RIZE Massachusetts to end the opioid epidemic and the stigma surrounding substance use disorder. Funding included in the state’s fiscal 2025 budget signed into law today by Gov. Maura Healey, and championed by Speaker Mariano, Senate President Spilka, and Ways & Means Chairs Representative Aaron Michlewitz and Senator Michael Rodrigues, is critical to our collective work to effectively, responsibly and equitably prevent overdose and increase access to treatment in the Commonwealth. After witnessing the largest decline in fatal overdoses in the last 13 years, it is crucial that we sustain our efforts to address the unacceptably large number of opioid-related deaths still occurring in Massachusetts.
